Rajasthan Royals youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi produced a historic performance during the IPL 2026 Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, smashing a sensational 97 off just 29 balls and rewriting several major records in the tournament’s history.

The 15-year-old’s explosive innings guided Rajasthan Royals to a commanding 47-run victory at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. His remarkable knock, filled with fearless strokeplay and towering sixes, also earned him the Player of the Match award.

Sooryavanshi narrowly missed breaking Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest IPL century, falling just three runs short after being dismissed on 97. However, the teenager still managed to script history with multiple milestones during the innings.

The left-handed batter became the uncapped player with the most runs in a single IPL season, surpassing Yashasvi Jaiswal’s previous record of 626 runs from IPL 2023. Sooryavanshi now has 680 runs this season and currently leads the IPL 2026 Orange Cap race.

He also broke Chris Gayle’s record for the most sixes in an IPL season, reaching 65 sixes overall. This is now the highest number of sixes hit by any player in a T20 tournament or series.

The teenager additionally became the first player under 20 to score 600 runs in a T20 tournament. His 16-ball half-century also equalled Suresh Raina’s record for the fastest fifty in IPL playoff history.

Sooryavanshi’s innings included 12 sixes, the most ever in an IPL playoff knock, surpassing Shubman Gill’s previous record of 10. He also became the first player to record three innings with 10 or more sixes in a single IPL season.

The young batter further broke records for most powerplay runs and most sixes in IPL powerplay overs, underlining his dominance throughout the season.
