Sidharth Malhotra-starrer The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest has recorded the biggest opening weekend of the actor’s career in 11 years, securing the third-highest opening weekend collection of his filmography. The supernatural thriller has earned Rs 33.25 crore net and Rs 39.65 crore gross in India, while its worldwide collection stands at Rs 43.15 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
The film witnessed a significant jump in collections on its first Sunday, earning Rs 14 crore net from 7,135 screens. This marked a 24.4 per cent increase compared to its Saturday collection of Rs 11.25 crore net, recorded across 6,887 screens. The film had opened with Rs 8 crore net on Friday from 6,746 screens.
With its three-day domestic collection reaching Rs 33.25 crore, The Vvaan has secured the third-highest opening weekend of Sidharth Malhotra’s career. It trails Karan Malhotra’s 2015 sports drama Brothers, which collected Rs 52 crore, and Mohit Suri’s 2014 action thriller Ek Villain, which earned Rs 50.65 crore during their respective opening weekends.
The film also recorded Rs 1.25 crore in overseas earnings on Sunday, taking its total international collection to Rs 3.50 crore.
Directed by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Arunabh Kumar, The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest follows Rishi, played by Malhotra, a city-dweller who returns to his ancestral village in Bihar to sell his land. However, after entering a forbidden forest despite warnings associated with goddess Vandevi, he encounters supernatural forces and must protect his community from a deadly threat.
The film also features Tamannaah Bhatia, Maniesh Paul, Sunil Grover, Anup Soni, Milind Gunaji, Shweta Tiwari and Avtar Gill. It is produced by Balaji Motion Pictures in association with The Viral Fever (TVF).
The Vvaan will face competition from Ajay Devgn and Tabu-starrer Drishyam 3, scheduled to release in cinemas on October 2.
