Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame Encore has emerged as the highest-grossing film globally over the weekend, as the re-release continues to attract audiences ahead of the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The film is now approximately USD 39 million away from surpassing Avatar, which remains the highest-grossing film worldwide with a collection of USD 2.9 billion.
Disney and Marvel brought Avengers: Endgame back to theatres under the title Avengers: Endgame Encore, featuring additional footage connecting the events of the 2019 blockbuster to Avengers: Doomsday. The upcoming Marvel film is scheduled for release in December and will feature Robert Downey Jr. in a new role as the villain Doctor Doom, marking a departure from his previous portrayal of Iron Man.
Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday will be the 39th instalment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is expected to bring together several popular superheroes.
The re-release topped both the US and worldwide box office charts, outperforming several new theatrical releases. Paramount’s The Heart of the Beast earned USD 30.1 million globally during its opening weekend, while Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s Forgotten Island collected USD 7.8 million worldwide.
In India, Avengers: Endgame Encore has also maintained a steady box office performance. According to Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 7.55 crore nett on its third day in theatres, recording a slight decline from its second-day collection of Rs 7.65 crore nett.
The Marvel blockbuster opened with Rs 7.25 crore nett on its first day. With its third-day earnings, the film’s total domestic collection has reached Rs 22.45 crore nett.
The strong performance of the re-release highlights continued audience interest in the Marvel franchise, particularly as anticipation builds for Avengers: Doomsday. The additional footage and renewed theatrical release have helped bring audiences back to one of the MCU’s biggest blockbusters.
