Under the Government of India’s Skill India Mission (SIM), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) delivers skill, re-skill and up-skill training through a wide network of centres and institutes across the country. Training is provided under key schemes such as:

    • Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
    • Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS)
    • National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS)
    • Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs)

The initiative aims to make India’s youth future-ready by equipping them with industry-relevant skills, including in backward and tribal regions.

    Training in Yoga and Wellness

    • Under PMKVY, courses like Yoga Instructor, Yoga Trainer, and Assistant Yoga Instructor are offered.
      • Course duration: 200–500 hours (approx. 3–6 months)
      • Covers: Anatomy, physiology, asanas, pranayama, meditation, and teaching methodology.
    • Under CTS, long-term training is available in Cosmetology and Spa Therapy trades.
    • Under NAPS, apprenticeships are offered in trades such as Yoga Assistant (Sports), Yoga Instructor (Beauty & Wellness), and Yoga Trainer (Sports).

    Contribution of MDNIY

The Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) conducts multiple training programs.

    • Beneficiaries:
      • 2023-24 → 3,018
      • 2024-25 → 3,006

    Placement and Career Opportunities

    • In earlier PMKVY versions (1.0, 2.0, 3.0: 2015–16 to 2021–22), placement tracking was implemented.
    • Under PMKVY 4.0, the focus is on empowering candidates to explore diverse career paths with proper orientation.
    • Candidates trained in Yoga and Wellness are encouraged to pursue opportunities in:
      • Wellness centres
      • Educational institutions
      • Fitness facilities
      • Self-employment

    Digital Support and Job Linkages

    • Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH) provides an integrated digital platform for skilling, education, employment, and entrepreneurship.
      • Details of trained candidates are available for employer access.
      • Offers jobs, apprenticeships, and lifelong career services.
    • Rozgar Melas and Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Melas (PMNAMs) are organized to facilitate placements.
