    Skill India Mission: Driving Future-Ready Workforce Through New-Age Skilling Initiatives

    Under the Skill India Mission (SIM), the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is delivering skill, re-skill and up-skill training through a wide network of centres across the country under schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS), National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS), and Craftsman Training Scheme (CTS) via ITIs. The mission aims to make Indian youth future-ready with industry-relevant skills.

    Key Initiatives for New-Age Skills

    • PMKVY: Over 200 future skills job roles aligned with Industry 4.0 in AI/ML, Robotics, EVs, Mechatronics, Drone Tech, etc.

    • NAPS: Apprenticeship in designated and optional trades, including new-age skills.

    • DGT: Introduced 31 emerging tech courses (5G, AI/ML, Cyber Security, Drone Tech) in ITIs and NSTIs.

    • Industry Partnerships: MoUs with IBM, CISCO, AWS, Microsoft, Future Skills for advanced training under CSR.

    • Indian Institutes of Skills (IIS): Established at Ahmedabad & Mumbai (PPP model) to create industry-ready workforce.

    • Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH): Comprehensive digital platform offering AI/ML, Robotics, Green Tech courses, jobs, and entrepreneurship support.

    Funding Support

    • PMKVY (2015–2025): ₹11,429.21 Cr

    • NAPS (2018–2025): ₹1,924.17 Cr

    • JSS (2018–2025): ₹883.71 Cr

    Funds are released directly to implementing agencies, NGOs, or through DBT for apprentices.

    Quality & Industry Alignment

    • NCVET: Regulates standards in vocational training, approving 8,693 qualifications (2,266 active).

    • 36 Sector Skill Councils: Identify industry skill needs and set competency standards.

    • Flexi MoU & Dual System of Training: Enable ITI students to train in industrial environments.

    • SIDH Portal: Connects trained candidates with employers, apprenticeships, and entrepreneurial opportunities.

    Through these initiatives, MSDE is building a future-ready, skilled workforce aligned with evolving industry needs, ensuring improved employability and economic empowerment of India’s youth.
