India pacer Mohammed Siraj has been rested for the upcoming T20I tours of Ireland and England, with Prasidh Krishna named as his replacement in the 15-man squad for both series.
The BCCI confirmed the decision on Tuesday, saying Siraj has been advised to take a break as part of a workload management plan ahead of a demanding international season.
“Following discussions between the BCCI Medical Team and the team management, Siraj has been advised a period of rest as part of his workload management programme,” the BCCI said in a statement.
The board added that the move is a precautionary measure to ensure the fast bowler gets adequate recovery time before India’s busy schedule later this year.
Siraj recently completed a heavy workload for Gujarat Titans in IPL 2026, featuring in all 17 matches and claiming 19 wickets. He was also part of India’s Test side that thrashed Afghanistan in the one-off Test in Mullanpur, which concluded on Monday.
Prasidh Krishna, who will replace him, had a strong IPL season as well, playing 12 matches for Gujarat Titans and finishing as the tournament’s Purple Cap winner in 2025. Despite his domestic success, the fast bowler has played only five T20 Internationals for India, all in 2023, and was not part of the squad that won the T20 World Cup earlier this year.
India will begin their white-ball assignment with a two-match T20I series in Ireland on June 26 and 28. The team will then travel to England for a longer tour featuring five T20Is and three ODIs.
Siraj’s absence gives the selectors an opportunity to test Prasidh in international conditions while ensuring one of India’s leading fast bowlers remains fresh for the long season ahead.
