Union petroleum and skill development ministerDharmendra Pradhan on Sunday inaugurated the Balasore pump station, a feeder point of supplying crude oil to five refineries of Paradip, Haldia, Barauni, Bongaigaon and Guwahati, at Chandipur in Balasore district. The minister will inaugurate an LPG pipeline, the Paradip-Balasore section of Paradip-Haldia- Durgapur LPG Pipeline(PHDPL), and an LPG bottling plant at Kuruda in Balasore district.

The projects will serve the entire eastern and north eastern region of the country, Dharmendra said.
The state-of-the-art pump station will play a key role in feeding the Paradip-Haldia- Barauni Crude Oil Pipeline (PHBPL), which is the energy highway to the entire eastern and north-eastern region of India.

The IOCL has invested Rs 586 crore for the augmentation of PHBPL in four states — Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. He said out of that, Rs 321 crore has been invested in Odisha alone. In future, the PHBPL pipeline has been envisaged to feed crude oil to Numaligarh refinery in the northeast. Paradip has one of the biggest crude oil storage facilities with 31 tanks having a total capacity of 60,000 kilolitre each. This will ensure uninterrupted supply of crude oil to all eastern region refineries of IOCL.
