The railway stations whose redevelopment stones will be laid by the Prime Minister include 55 each in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, 37 in West Bengal, 34 in Madhya Pradesh, 32 in Assam, 25 in Odisha, 22 in Punjab, 21 each in Gujarat and Telangana, 20 in Jharkhand, 18 each in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. These include 15 stations in Haryana and 13 stations in Karnataka.

The redevelopment project will cost Rs 24,470 crore and will provide modern amenities to commuters, the PMO said. The PMO said Modi often emphasises on the provision of state-of-the-art public transport and railways is the preferred mode of transport for the people. The PMO said they have prioritised the importance of providing world-class facilities at railway stations. Guided by this vision, ‘Amrit Bharat Station Scheme’ was launched for redevelopment of 1,309 stations, the statement said. As part of this plan, the foundation stone for redevelopment of 508 stations is being laid by the Prime Minister.

Master plan to be developed as a city centre

“These stations will be redeveloped at a cost of over Rs 24,470 crore. Master plans are being prepared to develop these stations as ‘City Centre’ with proper integration of both sides of the city. This integrated approach is driven by a holistic view of the overall urban development of the city, which is centred around the railway station.
