Pant Steps Down as LSG Captain

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have officially announced that Rishabh Pant will no longer serve as the team’s captain following a disappointing IPL 2026 campaign. The decision comes after Pant himself requested to be relieved of leadership duties, a request that the franchise accepted with immediate effect.

The 2026 season proved challenging for both Pant and LSG. Despite entering the tournament with high expectations, the franchise finished at the bottom of the 10-team points table. Pant also struggled with the bat, scoring only 312 runs in 14 innings, making it one of the most difficult seasons of his IPL career.

In an official statement, LSG confirmed that Pant had approached the management seeking to step down as captain. The franchise expressed gratitude for his contributions and acknowledged the responsibility he carried during a tough season.

LSG Director of Cricket Tom Moody stated that such decisions are never easy but emphasized that the team respects Pant’s choice. He thanked the wicketkeeper-batter for his efforts as captain and highlighted the franchise’s commitment to rebuilding and restructuring ahead of future seasons.

“Rishabh approached the franchise with this request, and we have respectfully accepted it,” Moody said. He added that the focus now shifts to strengthening the squad and restoring the team to competitive standards.

Pant was appointed captain amid considerable expectations, bringing leadership experience and a strong reputation as one of India’s most dynamic cricketers. However, the team’s poor results and his individual struggles ultimately led to a change in direction.

With Pant stepping aside, attention now turns to who will lead Lucknow Super Giants in IPL 2027 as the franchise begins preparations for a fresh start and aims to bounce back from a disappointing campaign.
