After a day-long drama, former finance minister P. Chidambaram was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from his residence in New Delhi late on Wednesday in connection with the INX Media case. While the senior Congress leader was grilled overnight at CBI headquarters, where he was taken after officials forced entry into his home by scaling the walls of his residence on, Chidambaram will be produced later on Thursday before a CBI special court, where the probe agency is likely to push for custodial interrogation.
“The CBI will push for at least three days of custodial interrogation. Now his lawyers will argue for his bail plea before the Supreme Court on Friday. If the SC developments are in his favour, and the apex court agrees then he will be out on bail, else if the CBI court agrees to extend custody, then Chidambaram will remain in CBI lock-up,” a person familiar with the developments said.
