‘Obsession’ Overtakes ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ at Box Office

The horror phenomenon Obsession continues to defy box office expectations, achieving another remarkable milestone by surpassing Disney’s The Mandalorian and Grogu in daily domestic earnings. The low-budget horror film has emerged as one of the biggest surprise successes of the year, fueled by strong word-of-mouth and exceptional audience reception.

According to recent box office tracking, Obsession earned approximately $5.6 million domestically on Wednesday, outperforming The Mandalorian and Grogu, which collected $4.1 million on the same day. The achievement is particularly notable because Obsession is already in its second week of release, while the latest Star Wars film is still in its debut week.

The film has already made headlines for increasing its box office revenue by nearly 39% during its second weekend — a rare feat in modern cinema. Industry observers now believe Obsession could post another increase in its third weekend, even as it faces fresh competition from The Mandalorian and Grogu and Backrooms, another low-budget horror title that is generating significant buzz.

With global earnings approaching the $100 million mark, some analysts predict that Obsession could eventually cross $200 million worldwide. Such a performance would represent an extraordinary return on investment given the film’s reportedly modest production budget.

Meanwhile, the outlook appears less encouraging for The Mandalorian and Grogu. Although the film has already surpassed its estimated $165 million production budget in gross revenue, it is tracking below the box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, widely regarded as one of Disney’s weakest-performing Star Wars theatrical releases.

The contrasting fortunes of the two films highlight the growing strength of original horror content at the box office. While Obsession continues to attract audiences through positive buzz, Disney faces renewed questions about the future direction of the Star Wars franchise on both the big and small screens.
