    Know who is Jaya Verma Sinha, the first woman chairman of the Railway Board? ?

    The Central Government on Thursday (August 31) appointed Jaya Verma Sinha as the CEO and Chairman of the Railway Board. With this, she became the first woman to hold this post in the 105-year-old history of the Railway Ministry.

    Jaya Verma Sinha is an alumnus of Allahabad University. According to NDTV, she joined the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) in 1988. She has so far worked in three railway sectors- Northern Railway, South Eastern Railway and Eastern Railway. Sinha will replace Anil Kumar Lahoti and take charge on September 1. His term will end on August 31, 2024. Sinha, who is scheduled to retire on October 1, will be re-appointed for the remainder of his term.

    Cabinet Appointments Committee approves

    According to the government order, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha as member of Operations Business Development, Chairperson of Railway Board and Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

    The face of railways after Balasore accident

    Sinha was the public face of the railways after the Balasore accident, during which she told the media about the railways’ complex signalling system, which recently killed nearly 300 people in Balasore, Odisha.

    Worked in the Indian High Commission

    He also worked as a railway consultant at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh for four years. It was during his tenure in Bangladesh that the Maitree Express, which runs from Kolkata to Dhaka, was inaugurated.

    The salary of the chairman of the Indian Railway Board, the highest officer of the railways, is currently around Rs 2.25 lakh per month. Along with this, they also get other benefits such as special allowances, house, travel and other facilities.
