India and Japan continue to deepen their collaboration in the energy sector under the Japan–India Clean Energy Partnership, focusing on energy security, clean energy transition, and climate change mitigation. This cooperation has been institutionalized through the India–Japan Energy Dialogue and sectoral Joint Working Groups (JWGs).

On 25th August 2025, a Ministerial-level India–Japan Energy Dialogue was held via video conferencing, co-chaired by Shri Manohar Lal, Hon’ble Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, and Mr. Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, Government of Japan.

During the dialogue, MoP, MNRE, MoPNG, and the Ministry of Coal presented the progress achieved under their respective JWGs and outlined future cooperation plans.

    The Ministers from both countries:

    • Reaffirmed their commitment to energy security and inclusive growth.
    • Welcomed advancements in clean hydrogen, ammonia, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.
    • Agreed to enhance collaboration on carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), green chemicals, biofuels, and advanced energy technologies.

Both sides emphasized that the India–Japan partnership will remain pivotal in shaping secure, resilient, and sustainable energy systems across the Indo-Pacific region.
