    India Face Ambitious Netherlands Challenge

India will look to fine-tune their game and address lingering flaws when they take on the Netherlands in Match 10 of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup at Headingley, Leeds. While India enter the contest as overwhelming favourites, the Dutch side is eager to seize the opportunity and keep alive its dream of reaching the tournament’s top eight.

For the Netherlands, a top-eight finish carries significant importance as it would secure qualification for the next T20 World Cup and provide valuable financial benefits that could strengthen long-term planning. After missing a golden chance to beat Bangladesh, the Dutch are now targeting an upset against one of the tournament’s heavyweights.

Head coach Neil Macrae believes his players have settled after the nerves and excitement of their World Cup debut. The squad, many of whom grew up watching India’s stars on television, is relishing the prospect of competing against one of the strongest teams in women’s cricket. The Dutch have also prepared extensively for the conditions, drawing on local knowledge from batter Sterre Kalis and previous training experiences in Yorkshire.

India, meanwhile, will not be taking the challenge lightly. Despite recording a convincing win over Pakistan in their opening match, the team acknowledged that the performance was not flawless. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will be eager to produce a more complete display as they seek momentum in a challenging group.

The conditions at Headingley could offer an intriguing contest. Historically, the venue has produced relatively low-scoring women’s T20 matches, with long square boundaries and slower surfaces often assisting bowlers. India may even consider adding an extra pace option to their lineup.

Players such as Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh will be key to India’s hopes, while the Netherlands will rely on captain Babette de Leede, Sterre Kalis and Heather Siegers to challenge the favourites in what promises to be an intriguing encounter.
