Honey Singh Opens Up About Bipolar Disorder Battle

Rapper and singer Yo Yo Honey Singh recently opened up about one of the most difficult periods of his life, revealing his struggles with bipolar disorder, substance abuse, paranoia, and years of isolation. Speaking on the ABtalks podcast, the singer shared how his mental health deteriorated at the peak of his career and how medication also led to severe physical changes, including hair loss.

Honey Singh disclosed that he now wears a wig after becoming completely bald due to the side effects of medication prescribed during his treatment. “This is a wig,” he admitted during the conversation, while reflecting on his long journey toward recovery.

The singer recalled that the first signs of his mental health condition appeared while he was simultaneously working on a music reality show in Mumbai and touring the United States with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. During the tour, he began experiencing intense fear, anxiety, and paranoid thoughts.

Sharing a particularly disturbing memory from Chicago, Honey Singh said he became convinced that he would die on stage during a performance. In an attempt to avoid appearing at the concert, he even shaved half of his head, hoping organisers would cancel his appearance. However, he was told he could simply wear a cap for the show.

“I was feeling that I would die on stage. People were not understanding what I was going through,” he said.

Honey Singh further revealed that he spent nearly seven years isolated from the public while battling addiction and mental health issues. Over time, with treatment, family support, and recovery efforts, he gradually rebuilt his life and career.

The singer’s candid revelations have sparked conversations online about mental health awareness, addiction recovery, and the importance of seeking professional help.
