Heatwave Alert: Delhi-NCR, Punjab And Many More Brace For Impact

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had last week warned of the intense heatwave that would be arriving on June 9, Monday. The IMD has flagged the states that need to brace themselves for the coming hot days. These states include the Delhi-NCR and many other northwestern states, excluding the valleys of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The weather department has said that these states will have to undergo the heatwave at least till June 11, Wednesday, post which the IMD says light rains are expected to bring some relief.

The weather department has said that most parts of Rajasthan will likely face intense weather with heatwave conditions. Some areas may experience even more extreme heat on Monday, June 9.

Apart from Rajasthan and Delhi-NCR, states like Punjab, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Madhya Pradesh are also expected to see heatwave conditions until Wednesday, June 11.

    When will rain bring respite?

According to the weather department, people in northwestern states struggling with the heatwave can expect some relief later in the week, around Friday and Saturday, June 13–14.

Places like Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh may get light to moderate rain in some areas. Thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are also likely.

In Uttarakhand, heavy rain is expected in some places between Thursday and Saturday, June 12–14.

    Delhi-NCR Heatwave Forecast for Today:

For Monday, the IMD has forecast clear skies and very hot weather in Delhi. Daytime temperatures will be around 41–43°C, while nighttime temperatures will range from 27–29°C.

The weather will be hot and humid, with winds blowing dust at speeds of 20–30 km/h.

The IMD said that winds in the morning will come mostly from the northwest at under 16 km/h, increasing to around 18–20 km/h in the afternoon, and may go up to 25 km/h by evening and night.
