In a big move by NDA government, former home secretary Rajiv Mehrishi has been appointed as Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG). A number of top bureaucratic changes have been made over the last few days by the government. Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi had retired and Rajiv Gauba took charge on Thursday as Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Rajiv Mehrishi was an Indian Administrative Service Officer (IAS) of 1978 batch and he belonged to Rajasthan cadre. In his first reaction to the Indian Express, Rajiv Mehrishi said: “I am in Jaipur, yet to receive any order.” Mehrishi will be taking over from current incumbent Shashi Kant Sharma. UPA government had appointed Sharma as far back as May 2013. Also, Ranjan Kumar Ghose was appointed as the Deputy Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

In another major development senior bureaucrat Rajiv Kumar was appointed Secretary in the Department of Financial Services (DFS) while Anita Karwal was named CBSE chairperson. Karwal is a Gujarat-cadre IAS officer and he will replace Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi, who has been shifted as the director general of National Skill Development Agency. Kumar is a 1984 batch IAS officer from the Jharkhand cadre and has been serving as Special Secretary and Establishment Officer, Ministry of Personnel.
