Govt Assures Adequate Fuel Supply Amid West Asia Tensions

The Government of India has assured citizens that adequate stocks of petrol, diesel and LPG are available across the country despite the evolving situation in West Asia. During an inter-ministerial media briefing at the National Media Centre, officials from the Ministries of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Ports, Shipping and Waterways shared updates on fuel supply, maritime safety and government preparedness.

The government urged citizens to avoid panic buying and rely only on official information. Consumers were also encouraged to use digital LPG booking platforms, conserve energy and adopt alternative fuels such as PNG and electric cooking systems. Officials said all retail fuel outlets are functioning normally, while refineries are operating at high capacity with sufficient crude inventories. Delivery Authentication Code (DAC)-based LPG deliveries have reached nearly 96% to prevent diversion, and online LPG bookings increased to around 99%.

To strengthen supply management, enforcement agencies conducted over 5,000 raids in the last three days against hoarding and black marketing. More than 3,100 inspections were also carried out at petrol pumps and LPG distributorships.

The government highlighted the growing shift towards PNG connections. Since March 2026, over 7.64 lakh PNG connections have been activated, while more than 58,500 consumers voluntarily surrendered LPG connections through the MYPNGD.in portal. On maritime operations, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed that all Indian seafarers in the Gulf region are safe. So far, over 3,316 Indian seafarers have been safely repatriated.
