Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said 500 consumers installed rooftop solar plants and registered for the PM Surya Ghar Mufti Bijli Yojana , receiving benefits under the scheme. Goa is generating 5.7 megawatts of solar power and has received Rs 3.8 crore central financial assistance to date, he said. Sawant added that Goa’s power requirement as of now is 663.3 megawatts, of which 559.9 megawatts are being procured from thermal power sources, 61.6 megawatts from renewable energy sources, and 41.6 megawatts from nuclear sources. “We need to reduce the reliance on thermal energy and move to alternative sources of energy,” the chief minister said while speaking at the inauguration of a workshop on the Acceleration of Solarization in Goa. Govt has received close to 5,000 applications for the installation of rooftop solar plants under the scheme, where they will not receive any electricity bill for the next 10 years, provided their power consumption doesn’t exceed 400 units in a month. If the limit is breached in a month, they will be charged for their consumption above 300 units. recently reported that state govt has set a target to cover a minimum of 50% of households in Goa with rooftop solar plants within the next year. also reported that the long-pending issue of disbursement of central financial assistance under Phase 2 of the scheme was resolved, bringing relief to around 346 beneficiaries.
