The main accused in the murder of a 17-year-old Class 11 student in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad died after being injured in a police encounter in the early hours of Sunday, May 31, 2026, officials said.
The accused, identified as Asad, a resident of the Khoda area, was wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of Surya Chauhan. According to police, Asad was injured during an exchange of fire with a police team conducting an operation to apprehend him. He was rushed to a hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
Surya Chauhan, a resident of Navneet Vihar Colony in Khoda, was stabbed during an altercation on May 28. He was initially admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to a private hospital in Noida for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he died from his injuries on May 29.
Following a complaint filed by the victim’s family, police registered a case against five individuals. Three suspects were arrested shortly after the incident, while Asad, identified as the main accused, remained absconding. Authorities had announced a reward of ₹50,000 for information leading to his arrest.
Police investigations indicate that Chauhan and the accused were acquainted and that a dispute over riding a motorcycle escalated into a violent confrontation. However, the victim’s family alleged that Surya was lured to a location through a phone call and was attacked by multiple assailants armed with knives.
The incident sparked public outrage and drew reactions from political leaders. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya assured strict action against those responsible, stating that the culprits would face the harshest punishment under the law. Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati also condemned the killing, describing it as a deeply tragic and alarming incident and demanding swift justice for the victim’s family.
The case remains under investigation.
