With an eye on the 2019 general election, BJP president Amit Shah today held talks with party leaders of Uttarakhand, office-bearers of various units, MPs and MLAs for strengthening the party where the BJP received a thumping majority in the 2017 elections.On his two-day trip, Shah will also evaluate the performance of the Rawat government.During the first meeting, more than 60 suggestions were tabled by party men and Shah was seen making meticulous notes of these.The MLAs raised the issue of failure in accessing funds for several schemes that the Centre had launched. They said they were facing problems in implementing the schemes.
Sources claimed that Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj raised the issue of party discipline and how an inquiry committee, set up to find out the facts behind the dumping of garbage outside his Prem Ashram, had failed to submit the report. “He did not take any name but by raking up the issue, the minister was able to point out to the fracas that had erupted between his supporters and the supporters of the Mayor of Haridwar,” said a BJP leader who was present at the meeting.
