Commercial LPG Cylinder Prices Hiked From June 1

Commercial LPG cylinder prices have been increased across major cities from June 1, with Delhi witnessing a hike of Rs 42 in the price of a 19 kg cylinder. The revision comes as the government intensifies efforts to strengthen fuel security, build strategic reserves, and curb hoarding of petroleum products.

Following the latest increase, the retail price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen to Rs 3,113.5. In Kolkata, the same cylinder now costs Rs 3,255.5 after a hike of Rs 53.5. Additionally, the price of a 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinder has been raised by Rs 11, taking its cost to Rs 821.5 in Delhi.

However, there is relief for households, as the government has not revised the prices of domestic LPG cylinders used for cooking. This marks the second increase in commercial LPG rates since May 1, when oil marketing companies raised prices due to disruptions in global LPG supplies linked to tensions in the Middle East.

The price revision coincides with government measures aimed at ensuring uninterrupted fuel availability across the country. According to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, India currently has adequate stocks of petrol, diesel, LPG, and natural gas. Oil companies have also been directed to maintain a minimum 30-day LPG reserve as part of the country’s energy security strategy.

Officials stated that LPG production has reached a record level of nearly 90 DMT per day, while domestic demand stands at around 72,000 metric tonnes daily. The government has also stepped up enforcement actions against hoarding and diversion of fuel products. Over the past few days, thousands of inspections and raids have been conducted, resulting in multiple FIRs, arrests, and fuel seizures.

Authorities say these measures have helped improve supply management, with the LPG distribution backlog now reduced to 4.5 days.
