Coal Minister Launches New Welfare Measures For Coal India Employees

Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy today unveiled three major initiatives for Coal India Limited (CIL) employees — a new uniform, the Corporate Salary Package (CSP), and enhanced ex-gratia benefits. These measures are in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of “Workers First” and “Workers’ Welfare”, placing coal workers’ safety, dignity, and financial security at the centre of national development.

    Enhanced Ex-Gratia under “We Care”

As part of the We Care initiative, the ex-gratia amount for mine accident fatalities has been increased from ₹15 lakh to ₹25 lakh. This benefit, applicable to both regular and contract workers, will be paid directly to families of the deceased, ensuring timely and transparent support. While Zero Harm remains Coal India’s mission, the enhanced compensation demonstrates its commitment to standing firmly with families in times of loss.

Corporate Salary Package: Financial Security for All

The newly launched Corporate Salary Package (CSP), introduced under the tagline “Suraksha Har Karmchaari Ki – United in Security, Empowered for the Future”, provides robust financial protection to employees. It offers:

    • ₹1 crore personal accident insurance for regular employees
    • ₹40 lakh coverage for contract workers

Over 2.15 lakh regular employees and 44,000 contract workers have already been enrolled. The scheme has been rolled out through MoUs with 10 leading public sector banks and the Chhattisgarh State Gramin Bank. Employees are not required to pay any premium, making this a welfare-driven initiative that strengthens social security.

New Uniform: Unity, Pride and Professionalism

The Minister also launched a new uniform for CIL employees, designed to foster professionalism, safety culture, and a shared identity. Whether in underground mines, open-cast operations, or administrative offices, the uniform reinforces unity, pride, and dignity across the Coal India workforce.

    Commitment to Workers’ Welfare

Together, these initiatives establish new benchmarks in employee welfare and workforce management. By combining enhanced social protection, comprehensive financial security, and a cohesive identity, Coal India reaffirms its commitment to a secure, motivated, and respected workforce — the backbone of India’s energy security.
