Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Yogi Adityanath inaugurated a large shelter home named Krishna Kutir yesterday to accommodate 1,000 widows at the holy town of Vrindavan in Mathura district of UP. Among others present on the occasion were Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Smt Maneka Sanjay Gandhi; Uttar Pradesh Minister for Women Welfare, Prof Reeta Bahuguna Joshi; Union Minister of State for Women Welfare, Smt Swati Singh; Member of Parliament from Mathura, Smt Hema Malini; and Member of Legislative Assembly from Govardhan Thakur Karinda Singh.

Built by state-owned Navratna public sector undertaking NBCC (India) Limited in collaboration  with Ministry of Women & Child Development under Swadhar Greh scheme of the Ministry and Help Age India, it is the largest ever facility of its kind created by a government organization. ‘Krishna Kutir’ has dormitories, a dispensary, ramps, lifts, provision for supply of adequate power, a water body and other amenities. The shelter home for widows and persons with special challenges is also equipped with a large modern kitchen and a skill-cum-training centre.

In a statement issued on the occasion Dr. Anoop Kumar Mittal, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of NBCC said “Krishna Kutir has been built to alleviate the situation of widows living in miserable conditions. As a responsible corporate, NBCC believes in well-being of the society and a better future for all citizens.”

It is worth mentioning that NBCC earlier has also constructed a four-storeyed hostel for the widows of Navy personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. At Betul in Madhya Pradesh, it is presently constructing a Sainik Rest House to serve as a focal point for all welfare activities related to ex-servicemen, war widows and their dependents.
