Brazil’s Football Confederation (CBF) has reaffirmed its commitment to head coach Carlo Ancelotti despite the national team’s disappointing Round of 16 exit from the FIFA World Cup following a 2-1 defeat to Norway.
The five-time world champions endured one of their poorest World Cup campaigns in decades, marking their earliest knockout-stage elimination since 1990 and their worst overall tournament showing since failing to progress beyond the group stage in 1966. However, the setback has not altered the CBF’s long-term plans.
National team coordinator Rodrigo Caetano stressed that the federation remains fully behind Ancelotti, who took charge in May 2025 after leaving Real Madrid and recently signed a contract extension through the 2030 World Cup. Caetano called for patience and stability, saying Brazil would continue its current project while making necessary improvements ahead of the next World Cup cycle.
Although the defeat has left players, coaches and staff deeply disappointed, Caetano highlighted the professionalism and commitment shown by the squad throughout the tournament. He believes the experience gained during the campaign can serve as a foundation for future success.
Ancelotti also struck a positive tone after the loss, describing the painful elimination as “fuel for the new cycle.” The CBF echoed that message on social media, thanking Brazilian supporters and expressing confidence that the national team would return stronger.
Brazil captain Marquinhos apologised to fans following the defeat but urged them to continue supporting the team. The defender acknowledged that Brazil failed to make the most of their opportunities against Norway, including a missed penalty, while their opponents were clinical in front of goal.
Looking ahead, Marquinhos believes the team has enough time to rebuild and compete for major honours again. With the CBF maintaining faith in Ancelotti’s leadership, Brazil will now begin preparations for the 2030 World Cup, hoping to transform this disappointment into future success.
