PTI The government has cut the windfall tax on domestically-produced crude oil to Rs 1,700 per tonne from Rs 2,300 per tonne with effect from Tuesday. The tax is levied in the form of Special Additional Excise Duty (SAED). According to an official notification, SAED on export of diesel, petrol and jet fuel or ATF has been retained at nil. The new rates are effective from January 16. The tax rates are reviewed every fortnight based on average oil prices in the previous two weeks. PTI The government has imposed 50 per cent export duty on molasses, a by-product of sugarcane and key ingredient for ethanol production, amid likely decline in sugar production in the current season. According to a finance ministry notification, the order will come into force from January 18. The move is aimed at boosting the availability of molasses for domestic distilleries and help meet the government’s ethanol blending target. In the current year, the government aims to achieve 15 per cent blending of ethanol with petrol for which 690 litres of ethanol would be required. Without diversion for ethanol, the government…

The Sentinel Production of crude oil in Assam in October 2023 has marked a significant increase when compared to the production figures of October 2022. This was revealed in a recent report by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (Infrastructure and Project Monitoring Division) titled ‘Review of Infrastructure Sector Performance, October 2023’. The report was concerned, among others, with the production of crude oil by Oil India Limited (OIL) and Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) in the state.
