(FE) The PM Narendra Modi government is working on a consolidation agenda with a view to creating 3-4 global-sized banks and reduce the number of state-owned lenders to about 12, an official said. The 21 public sector banks would get consolidated to 10- 12 in the medium term, the official said. (FE) The Income Tax Department (ITD) has identified 5.56 lakh new persons in the 2nd phase of Operation Clean Money for e-verification of large cash deposits. These are the persons whose tax profiles were found to be inconsistent with the cash deposits made by them during the demonetization period, the Finance Ministry said today.
