(PTI) The government is working on a policy to bring down the annual oil import bill by USD 100 billion by 2030 through extensive use of methanol in cooking gas and transportation fuel, union minister Nitin Gadkari told Lok Sabha today. The government was “shortly” going to implement a scheme under which 15 per cent methanol will be blended with petrol and which will reduce the cost of the fuel by 10 per cent, the Road Transport Minister said during the Zero Hour.

(PTI) Wages given under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA) are lower than the agricultural wages in as many as 17 states and Union Territories, the Lok Sabha was informed today. The Ministry of Rural Development had constituted a committee on revision of pay under the MGNREGA. “As per the committee, the MGNREGA notified wage rate is lower than the agricultural wage rate in 17 states/UTs,” Minister of State for Rural Development Ram Kripal Yadav said in a written reply. (HT) Oil India Ltd (OIL) has made two hydrocarbon discoveries in the Dumduma Petroleum Mining Lease (PML) in the upper Assam basin during the second and third quarter of the financial year 2017-2018, according to a company statement. The well South Chandmari-5 produced gas at the rate of 50,000 scmd (standard cubic metres per day). The well Hukanguri-2 produced oil at the rate of 55 cubic meters per day. (FE) The government is planning to scrap the monthly increase in cooking gas prices, as per a report by CNBC-TV 18. Oil marketing companies have not increased prices of LPG since October 1. State-owned oil firms revise rates of LPG and ATF on 1st of every month based on average oil price and foreign exchange rate in the previous month. Also, the minister said the Centre is targeting a fully electric fleet for public transport, including buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws under the second phase of FAME India scheme. (MC) The sharp surge in global crude prices after the OPEC (Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries) and Russia decided to extend output cut has pushed the Brent crude price over USD 65 their highest level since mid-2015. The increase in global prices impacted the domestic prices of diesel and petrol with diesel hitting an all-time high in Delhi at Rs 59.31 per litre on December 26.
