(Tribune) Concerned over accelerated glacial melting resulting in major reduction in its snow cover, Himachal will now monitor glaciers falling in the Satluj basin with the help of drones. The exercise is being undertaken for the first time in India.Glacial drone, designed specifically to measure the depth and area of a glacier, will be used to monitor Nardu glacier in Sangla valley in Kinnaur district. A US-trained scientist, working with a private institution in Ghaziabad, will help the Council for Science, Technology and Environment use the latest technology being used in other parts of the world to monitor glacial recession.…

(Tribune) A cloudburst Munsiari’s Balati area in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh town on Monday damaged Seraghat Hydro Power Project, raising fears of flood in the area. Reports said dam water had begun to enter houses nearby. However, no casualties have been reported so far. Two days of heavy rainfall last month in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Nainital districts had lead to flood in the area, affecting road traffic.

(PTI) The Confederation of ATM Industry (CATMI) has sought immediate regulatory intervention to correct the fee structure in the loss-making ATM deployer industry. It says the latest RBI direction to reconfigure cash vending machines will increase their cost by at least 25 per cent, leaving them unaviable. The industry also said that meeting the RBI directive will be contingent solely on banks taking on the additional cost, as this will increase their operational cost by 40 per cent.
