(LiveMint) Interest rates on various small savings schemes, including Public Provident Fund (PPF), Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP), National Savings Certificate, Monthly Income Scheme, Senior Citizen Savings Scheme (SCSS) and Sukanya Samriddhi Scheme (SSS), were increased by 40 basis points (bps) for the October-December quarter. While the interest rate for post office savings deposits remain at 4%, PO time deposits for 1, 2 and 3 years will give additional returns of 30 basis points. (PTI) State-run power utility MSEDCL plans to set up 500 electric vehicle charging stations across Maharashtra to encourage use of green energy by automobiles, an official said Thursday. In the first phase of the project, 50 such stations will soon come up in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Panvel (four each) Thane (six), Pune, Nagpur (10 each) and Mumbai-Pune Expressway (12), the Maharashtra Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) said in a release. (ET) Indian refiners will pay for oil from Iran in rupee, using UCO Bank and IDBI Bank, from November 4 when petroleum-related sanctions against the Islamic Republic take effect, according to people familiar with the matter. India has also offered to cut its oil purchase from Iran significantly to secure a waiver from the US to continue its imports. Without a waiver, an oil trade or financial transaction with Iran risks cutting India off the US financial system.
