(PTI) To give a push to the skilling ecosystem, the government has proposed establishing the National Council for Vocational Education & Training, along with skills universities that will offer degrees like master and bachelor of skills. The Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry has placed the guidelines on setting up skills universities in India in the public domain and sought comments within 15 days. According to the draft norms, the universities will have specialised skill training labs, studios and centres of excellence developed in collaboration with industry.

(PTI) The Reserve Bank of India Thursday allowed banks to dip further into statutory cash reserves in a bid to ease a liquidity squeeze afflicting the nation’s money markets. RBI in a statement said banks could ‘carve out’ up to 15 per cent of holdings under the statutory liquidity reserves to meet their liquidity coverage ratio (LCR) requirements as compared to 13 per cent now. (BS) Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday launched a portal to enable micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to get in-principle approval of loans within an hour without the need for a branch visit. The web portal, www.psbloansin59minutes.com, will enable in-principle nod for loans up to Rs 10 million within 59 minutes for MSMEs, financial services department secretary Rajiv Kumar said. The portal is for securing loan approvals only from Small Industries Development Bank of India, and five public sector banks (PSB) — State Bank of India (SBI), Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Vijaya Bank, and Indian Bank.

(ET) The government is planning a share buyback by Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) to help meet the challenging divestment target for the year, according to people familiar with the matter. The buyback, if approved by the board of ONGC, is likely to be close to a billion dollars in size, they said. The government has begun discussing the option of buyback with ONGC, and plans to offer part of its shareholding back to the company, people said.
