(FE) State-owned aluminium major Nalco has firmed up plans to set up a new technology division. The idea is to develop indigenous technologies for making equipment that will cater to the domestic aluminium industry, which is projected to treble the production capacity to 12 million tonne per annum (mtpa) by 2031-32. The Nalco board has already cleared the proposal and has sought the approval of the mines ministry, its nodal ministry. (ET) Coal India (CIL) and its large pithead consumers are planning a 10,000 crore investment in conveyor belts to transport coal directly from mines in a cheaper and cleaner way without using trucks. Customers will make the investment while CIL will provide land and facilities for the belts, which will be installed in mines that produce 4 million tonnes of ore, a senior company executive said on condition of anonymity.
