(ET) More than 7 million farmers of West Bengal will now be able to directly enrol for the PM- KISAN scheme bypassing the state government, which is not keen to pursue the scheme that promises small and marginal farmers Rs 6,000 a year in three instalments.West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee has been a vocal critic of the scheme. (ET) State-run Petronet LNGs $2.5 billion investment to secure 5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Tellurian is unlikely work to the advantage of India as the first set of gas from the the US-based natural gas companys Driftwood project would reach Indian shores only by fiscal 2023-24. As per analyst presentations given by Tellurian, the first phase of the 27.6 million tonne per annum (mtpa) Driftwood project will be able to deliver LNG only in 2023. (PTI) RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das on Tuesday described the government’s move to slash corporate tax rate as a bold measure. He said it has made India a very attractive destination for foreign investment. In the biggest reduction in 28 years, the government on Friday cut corporate tax rate by almost 10 percentage points as it looked to pull the economy out of a six-year low growth and a 45-year high unemployment rate by reviving private investments with a Rs.1.45-lakh crore tax break. (ET) Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has rolled out more than two lakh new PNG (piped natural gas) connections and expanded its CNG (compressed natural gas) network to 500 stations by setting up 54 new outlets in 2018-19, company chairman Gajendra Singh told shareholders on Monday. Singh, who is also director (marketing) of state-run gas utility GAIL, said the company will invest Rs 1,170 crore in 2019-20 to build new CNG stations and create pipeline infrastructure in its present and prospective markets. (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Wednesday conferred the “Global Goalkeeper” award by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by his government. Accepting the award, Modi said he shared the honour with crores of Indians who had contributed to the success of the cleanliness mission. Getting the award in the year of Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary was significant for him, the prime minister said, adding that when 130 crore people take a pledge, any challenge can be overcome.
(ET) A one-day strike at Coal India led to around 35% loss in production with only half of the workforce turning up for duty on Tuesday. Executives did not join the strike called by the workers to oppose liberalisation of coal mining.
