(DH) Union Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Sunday announced the Centre’s plan to raise the capacity of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) to over 10 million tonnes from 4.2 million tonnes now. The minister asserted that further expansion and modernisation at RSP, a unit of SAIL, will play a major role in transforming the western Odisha town of Rourkela into a manufacturing hub. “RSP presently has the capacity to produce 4.5 million tonnes of hot metal and 4.2 million tonnes of crude steel per annum. Its capacity is planned to be increased over 10 million tonnes per annum,” Pradhan told reporters here.…

(ET) Singareni Collieries has acquired the ‘New Patrapada’ coal block in Odisha, which is three times bigger than the already acquired ‘Saini’ coal block. The block was allotted by the coal ministry. “Once all permissions are sought and production starts ‘New patrapada’ will be considered to be one of the biggest coal blocks in the country. (ET) The government wants oil companies to pay Rs 34,000 crore in dividend, profit petroleum and royalty in this financial year, about 15% more than they did last year, in a bid to raise resources for public spending amid economic slowdown and corporate tax cut. (LiveMint) A panel set up by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has recommended that the central bank’s liquidity framework be made flexible enough to adapt to conditions when the system requires liquidity to be in surplus mode. Under the current setup, system liquidity is required to be in a small deficit, which could be an impediment when surplus liquidity is essential.
