(FE) NTPC will meet a tenth of its coal requirements through imports in the current fiscal, by importing 20 million tonne (MT) of fuel and raising its captive fuel capacity by about 60%, according to a senior company official. The state-run power producer wants to ensure supplies from its thermal stations are not disrupted by the domestic coal shortage. NTPC has also decided to put the plans to expand coal-fired capacities on the front-burner, the official said, adding that the company will soon award a contract for a 2 X 660-megawatt coal-fired unit at its Talcher station in Odisha. Prices have been steady since April 6 after OMCs hiked prices by Rs 10 per litre through 14 price hikes across major cities. Petrol in the National Capital of Delhi is currently priced at Rs 105.41 per litre, after the last hike of 80 paise nearly a month ago. Diesel in the city is priced at Rs 95.87. (PTI) Indian Oil Corp (IOC) rolled out M15 petrol — 15 per cent blend of methanol with petrol — on a pilot basis in Assam’s Tinsukia district. Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Rameswar Teli launched the M15 petrol in the presence of Niti Aayog member VK Saraswat and IOC chairman SM Vaidya on Saturday. Teli said that blending fuel with methanol will provide respite from the rising prices. “Pilot rollout of M15 is a stepping stone towards achieving fuel independence and reducing the import burden,” he said.

(PTI) India’s petrol and diesel sales growth moderated in April while cooking gas LPG consumption fell as record high prices dented demand, preliminary industry  data showed on Sunday. Petrol sales growth moderated to 2.1 per cent in April when compared with the same period in the preceding month, while diesel demand demand was almost flat. Cooking gas LPG, which had consistently shown growth even during the pandemic period, saw a massive 9.1 per cent month-on-month drop during April. (ET) The railways has cancelled 42 passenger trains so far to facilitate coal freight movement in the wake of a power crisis in various parts of the country, causing inconvenience to people travelling to and from coal producing states such as Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand.
