(ET) India has started work on restructuring state-owned companies and on the immediate agenda is the bifurcation of GAIL (India) into marketing and transportation units — one of them to be sold — and a three-way merger of power generation companies NTPC, SJVN and NHPC. “We are looking at various combinations,” said a finance ministry official aware of developments. Indian Oil Corporation, the state-owned refiner, had evinced interest in natural gas processing and distribution company GAIL last year, and may be a potential buyer, the official said. IOC is the second-biggest gas marketer in India, after GAIL.

(ET) Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum will jointly lay the world’s largest liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) pipeline between Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh at an estimated cost of Rs 10,000 crore. The three state-run refiners signed a joint venture agreement Monday evening, Indian Oil said in a statement. The 2757-km-long pipeline will connect Kandla in Gujarat to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh, feeding LPG to 22 bottling plants in three states, strengthening the supply infrastructure of the fuel that’s largely used in India for cooking. (The Tribune) The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has discontinued the land acquisition process for its two four-lane projects, Pathankot-Mandi and Kangra-Shimla highway, falling in six districts. The NHAI has issued letters to all Deputy Commissioners and SDMs who have been overseeing the process for the last one-and-a-half year.
