There is talk in political circles that the Janata Dal Secular (JDS) may form an alliance with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for next year’s Lok Sabha elections.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday (July 25), JDS supremo and former Prime Minister H D Deve Gowda said that his party will contest the elections alone. “Even if we (the party) win five, six, three, two or one seat, we will fight the Lok Sabha elections on our own,” Deve Gowda said. “We will field candidates in the general elections only in those areas where we are strong after consulting our workers,” he said.
What Did H D Kumaraswamy Say??
Deve Gowda’s son and former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy had last week said his party would work with the BJP against the Congress government in the state on various issues. With this, there was speculation that BJP and JDS would join hands in the Lok Sabha elections next year.
Jd(S) and BJP MLAs had boycotted the session after 10 BJP leaders were suspended from the Assembly for “indecent and degrading conduct”. Let us know that in the recently held Karnataka Assembly elections, the Congress got a majority. The BJP government was out of power. After this, it was expected that BJP and JDS could come together for the general elections. The JD(S) was also not invited to a meeting of opposition parties hosted by the Congress in Bengaluru.
