Nine MPs, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, took oath as Rajya Sabha MPs on Monday. Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar administered the membership of the House to all the MPs. This will be Jaishankar’s second term as a Rajya Sabha MP. He has been elected as a Rajya Sabha member from Gujarat.

Five Trinamool Congress MPs Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray, Prakash Chik Baraik and Samirul Islam also took oath as Rajya Sabha members.

    What Jaishankar said?

“I am deeply honoured to be sworn in as a member of the Rajya Sabha of India today. My heartfelt gratitude to the citizens of Gujarat, BJP and Hon’ble PM Modi ji for giving me the opportunity to serve the country and my countrymen again.”

He was farewell on August 18.

On the last day of the monsoon session, the rajya sabha terms of BJP’s S Jaishankar, Dinesh Chandra Jemalbhai Anavadia and Lokhandwala Jugal Singh Mathur and TMC’s Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Sushmita Dev, Shanta Chhetri, Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Congress’ Pradip Bhattacharya ended.
