Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal will visit Canada from May 25 to 27 to strengthen bilateral economic ties and advance negotiations on the India–Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). The visit is aimed at accelerating trade discussions, boosting investments, and deepening strategic cooperation between the two countries.
A delegation of senior representatives from more than 100 Indian companies will accompany the minister. The delegation includes businesses from sectors such as metals and mining, energy, automotive, aerospace, tourism, textiles, agriculture, telecom, pharmaceuticals, and capital goods.
During the visit, Shri Goyal will hold talks with Canada’s Minister of International Trade, Maninder Sidhu, to review the progress of CEPA negotiations and explore new opportunities for trade and investment. India and Canada are aiming to increase bilateral trade to USD 50 billion by 2030. In FY2025-26, bilateral trade stood at nearly USD 8 billion.
The minister is also scheduled to meet Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney and Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand. Discussions are expected to focus on energy security, clean energy transition, technology cooperation, artificial intelligence, and strategic partnerships.
India and Canada are also looking to expand cooperation in areas such as semiconductors, innovation ecosystems, civil nuclear energy, and advanced technologies. Officials from both countries are continuing the second round of CEPA negotiations, which resumed after recent high-level diplomatic engagements.
The visit comes amid renewed momentum in India–Canada relations since mid-2025, including Prime Minister Mark Carney’s visit to India earlier this year. Both nations are expected to use the visit to strengthen economic partnerships, people-to-people ties, and long-term strategic cooperation.
