Droupadi Murmu hosted Nikos Christodoulides at Rashtrapati Bhavan, marking another step forward in the growing partnership between India and Cyprus. President Murmu also hosted a banquet in honour of the visiting leader and his delegation.
During the meeting, the President highlighted the long-standing friendship between the two nations, built on trust, goodwill, and mutual respect. She noted that bilateral ties have now been elevated to a Strategic Partnership, reflecting the increasing depth and maturity of India-Cyprus relations.
President Murmu said cooperation between the two countries is expanding across several important sectors, including defence and security, financial services, maritime cooperation, connectivity, and technology. She also acknowledged Cyprus as one of the significant sources of Foreign Direct Investment in India, adding that Cypriot companies are showing growing interest in India’s fast-expanding economy, infrastructure, manufacturing, and digital transformation initiatives.
Technology and innovation emerged as key focus areas during the discussions. President Murmu stated that India’s young talent pool, technological capabilities, and thriving startup ecosystem can complement Cyprus’ innovation-driven economy. She stressed the potential for collaboration in sectors such as semiconductors, renewable and green energy, sustainable development, artificial intelligence, and space technology.
The President also expressed confidence that Cyprus could play an important role in strengthening India-Europe economic cooperation during its Presidency of the European Union Council, particularly after the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement.
India further appreciated Cyprus’ support on issues such as cross-border terrorism and reforms in multilateral institutions. Both leaders agreed that stronger bilateral cooperation would deliver long-term benefits for the people of both nations.
