(ET) Sudan has denied India’s Oil and Natural Gas Corporation an extension of licence to operate an oil block after the initial contract expired in November 2016. ONGC Videsh, the overseas arm of the state-run firm, had a 25 per cent interest in the 2B block of Sudan and its share in the block’s output was 7,000-8,000 barrels a day. China National Petroleum Corporation and Malaysia’s Petronas are the other partners in the block. (NDTV) India toppled Japan as the world’s second-largest importer of liquefied petroleum gas as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s pledge to provide cooking gas cylinders to the poor and wean them off polluting fuels, drove up consumption. Imports of LPG, mostly used as cooking fuel, soared 23 percent during the financial year that ended March 31 to 11 million tons, according to data from oil ministry’s Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell.
