(PTI) India has for the first time ever signed a contract to import liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran as it looks at additional sources of cooking fuel to meet rising domestic demand. State-owned oil firms will import one very large gas carrier (VLGC), or 44,000 tonnes, per month for an initial six-month period, industry sources said.India imports almost a million tonnes of LPG every month to meet rising demand that has been further fuelled by the government drive to give free gas connections to poor women. (FE) India’s manufacturing policy will soon be overhauled with the objective of creating more jobs in an environment where technology is rapidly replacing labour, commerce & industry minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Tuesday.“If some high-end jobs are going to be displaced in the wake of Industry 4.0, the new policy must address how to redeploy such workers elsewhere,” Sitharaman observed. (KR) Around 2.78 lakh LPG connections have been issued to women beneficiaries in Jammu and Kashmir under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) which has resulted in increasing LPG Coverage in the State to 85.20%. This information was given by the Minister of State (I/C) Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan. He said 2.20 crore LPG connections have been issued to BPL families under PMUY during 2016-17 surpassing the target of 1.5 crore for the said fiscal. The National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) has instructed the District Magistrate of Raigarh in Chhattisgarh to provide the current status of action taken against the indulging officers and employees found accused in the illegal land transfer cases. The instruction was given in a meeting held under the Chairmanship of Shri Nand Kumar Sai, Chairman, NCST New Delhi. The Commission has also asked to return the land taken against rules to the original owners and speedy disposal of cases under sections 170(1&2) of Chhattisgarh land revenue manual.
