(BS) Oil marketing major Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) aims to achieve 100 per cent capacity utilisation of its 15-million-tonne-per-annum (mtpa) Paradip refinery in 2019-20 even if US ends the waiver of oil import from Iran. “We have the closed the last fiscal with 14.6 million tonne capacity utilisation. Paradip refinery is equipped to process different types of crude. We will achieve more than 100 per cent of the capacity at the refinery during FY20,” said senior official of IOCL. (BS) Indian refineries fully prepared to meet national demand for petroleum products. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued a statement on the announcement by US to discontinue the Significant Reduction Exemption to all purchases of crude oil from Iran. The ministry has stated that Government of India has put in place a robust plan to ensure that there is adequate supply of crude oil to Indian oil refineries from May 2019 on wards. There will be additional supplies from other major oil producing countries from different parts of the world. The Indian refineries are fully prepared without any problem to meet the national demand for petrol, diesel and other petroleum products in the country.
(FE) The government is likely to raise the import duty on wheat from the current 30% to 40% to rule out any possibility of cheaper imports amid the harvesting of the new crop. The import duty increase will force flour millers to buy wheat from FCI, which is set to offload stocks rather than source the grain from other countries. The Election Commission (EC) is likely to clear the proposal soon to increase the import duty on wheat to 40% after the plan was approved by a panel of secretaries last week, sources said.
