The CAG report tabled in the UP Legislative Assembly on Friday on pricing of production and sale of liquor (state excise department) for the year ended March 2018, points out at total financial implication of Rs. 24,805 crores. (PTI) The Centre has proposed light urban rail transit system – ‘Metrolite’ – in small cities and towns having lower projection of ridership, with each train having three coaches and a restricted speed of 25 kmph. The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has issued standard specifications of the ‘Metrolite’ system which will be developed on surface and elevated stretches. According to the ministry, the ‘Metrolite’, which can be developed at a lower cost in comparison with existing metro system, will also act as feeder system to high capacity Metro. (LiveMint) The railways ministry has sought the approval of the Union cabinet to build three new dedicated freight corridor (DFC) networks at a total investment of about ₹3 trillion, said a senior government official aware of the matter, in what may help Indian Railways meet growing demand for faster and efficient movement of freight. While the East-West Corridor (2,328km) will be built between Kolkata and Mumbai, the North-South Corridor (2,327km) is planned between Delhi and Chennai and the East Coast Corridor (1,114km) between Kharagpur and Vijaywada. The company, beginning mid-2020, will bring to production three sets of new discoveries in the block that will reverse the years of decline in production. (PTI) Flash floods caused by heavy rains in catchment areas of Nepal have ravaged a dozen districts of Bihar so far, claiming 78 lives and affecting 55 lakh people, the state’s disaster management department said on Thursday. Sitamarhi reported the highest number of 18 casualties, followed by Madhubani (14), Araria (12), Sheohar and Darbhanga (nine each), Purnea (seven), Kishanganj (four), Supaul (three) and East Champaran (two), it said in a release.
