(TH) NTPC has announced that Unit-1 of 660 MW of Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project (3 x 660 MW) of Nabinagar Power Generating Co Ltd (a wholly owned subsidiary of the company) will be declared on commercial operation from September 6. The unit-I is the first coal-fired unit, which would be made commercially operational. Work on the second and third units is in progress. The first and second units are expected to go on stream in the current and the next financial years, respectively.

ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL), the overseas investment arm of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC), had in 2008 made a significant natural gas discovery in the Farsi offshore exploration block in the Persian Gulf, the company said in its latest annual report. BPCL on Wednesday bought 20,000 tonnes of gasoline for Sept. 16-18 arrival at Kandla at premiums of about $4 a barrel to Singapore quotes on a cost-and-freight (C&F) basis, industry sources who track the fuel said on Thursday. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the commerce ministry, said that “import policy” for these 215 items “has been revised from ‘free’ to ‘free’ subject to compulsory registration under SIMS”.
