(ET) India aims to invest in producing oil and gas fields abroad to compensate for falling domestic output and to help reduce the impact of oil price volatility, the oil minister said on Tuesday.India, the world’s third biggest oil consumer, imports about 80% of its oil needs, making it highly susceptible to crude price swings. “Today we are very much focused to invest in producing fields,” Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, adding that the eastern part of Russia was an area “we are concentrating on.”He said India was negotiating with Russia’s Rosneft to invest in eastern Russia.

(ET) Six companies under power and coal ministries paid their employees Rs 175 crore as perks, allowances and ex-gratia beyond government’s guidelines, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said in a report. The amount was paid to employees of NLC India, NTPC, NTPC-Sail Power Company Ltd (NSPCL), Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation and THDC India. NLC India paid its employees a total Rs 26.83 crore, which included two special golden jubilee increments from January 2006. (ET) Refiners are seeking government support for their plan to raise consumer prices to recover heavy investments they have made in upgrading their facilities to produce less polluting Bharat Stage-VI fuel. Refiners will need to recover an additional 80 paise a litre on petrol and Rs 1.45 a litre on diesel for five years for a decent return on their investments, according to industry executives.
