(PTI) A moderate intensity earthquake of magnitude 3.6 shook Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla on Monday morning, the Meteorological Department said. There was no report of any casualty or damage to property.The quake’s epicentre was at a depth of 10 km north-east in Shimla district, the department said, adding that tremors were felt in and around the district at 5.18 am.

(ET) After keeping the post vacant for nearly a year, the government has constituted a search-cum-selection committee to appoint the managing director of ONGC Videsh Ltd, India’s flagship firm for acquisition of oil and gas assets abroad. Narendra K Verma, the previous managing director of OVL, retired on January 31, 2019, and the post has been lying vacant since then. In the absence of any full-time head, OVL did not make a single acquisition in 2019, records on the company website showed. (ET) In its endeavour towards more sustainable power generation, NTPC Ltd, India’s largest power producer, has started utilising agro-residue-based pellets to co-fire its power plants along with coal.The purpose behind the usage of agro-based pellets is twofold – one it turns off stubble burning in farms and brings down pollution and two it reduces coal usage in power generation. In the past fortnight, NTPC Dadri power plant has been co-firing close to 70-80 tons of agro-residue fuel along with coal. (PTI) Niti Aayog and Indian Railways have come out with a discussion paper for running 150 trains on 100 routes by private operators, envisaging an investment of Rs 22,500 crore. The discussion paper titled ‘Private Participation: Passenger Trains’ has identified 100 routes, including Mumbai Central-New Delhi, New Delhi- Patna, Allahabad-Pune and Dadar-Vadodara. Other prominent routes include Howrah-Chennai, Howrah Patna, Indore-Okhla, Lucknow-Jammu Tawi, Chennai-Okhla, Anand Vihar-Bhagalpur, Secunderabad-Guwahati and Howrah-Anand Vihar.The paper, prepared for discussions with stakeholders, has split the 100 routes into 10-12 clusters.
