(PTI) State-owned CIL’s coal supply to the power sector registered a decline of 6.8 percent to 377.86 million tonnes (MT) in the the April-January period of the ongoing fiscal. The commodity dispatch by Coal India (CIL) to the power sector in the year-ago period was 405.61 MT, according to official data. However, the coal despatch by CIL to the power sector in January registered an increase of 2.9 percent to 43.20 MT, over 42 MT in the corresponding month of the previous fiscal, it said. (FE) In nothing short of a jackpot for the Uttar Pradesh government, geologists have discovered massive gold deposits in Sonbhadra district of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The discovery comes after two decades of search by the Geological Survey of India and the Uttar Pradesh Directorate of Geology and Mining. As per estimates, there are two goldmines with around 3,500 tonnes of gold ore in the Naxal-affected Sonbhadra district. An agreement in principle to start a Tejas Express train between Delhi-Haridwar-Dehradun has been given on a request by the Uttarakhand chief minister, an official release here on Friday quoted Railway Minister Piyush Goyal as saying. (LiveMint) India’s electricity demand grew 7.5% in the first 18 days of February with early onset of summer in the South and West, offering some relief to the stressed thermal power sector which can now operate at higher capacities. Currently, thermal power projects are operating at 58% capacity, a senior government official said. Power demand had grown 3.7% in January, turning around after five months of decline.Demand for electricity stood at 1,05,289 megawatt (mw) in January against 1,01,570 mw in December 2019. (PTI) Tata Power is planning to increase its network of electric vehicle charging stations to 700 by next year, a top company official said. The company has already installed 100 fast charging stations in various cities, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Pune and Hyderabad, which it plans to take to 300 by March 2020. “We are mapping the locations where EVs are launched and we will be setting up charging stations in those cities.
