(HT) The Union Cabinet on Monday approved a proposal by Kaynes Semicon to set up a semiconductor unit in Sanand, Gujarat, with an investment of ₹3,307 crore (US$394.15 million), electronics and information technology minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said. This is the fifth semiconductor unit to be approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the second to be set up in Sanand. It brings the total investment to ₹1,52,307 crore (US$18.15 billion). The government launched the ISM and the display manufacturing ecosystem with an outlay of ₹76,000 crore in December 2021. In the short span of three years since its launch, eShram has registered more than 30 crore unorganised workers, showcasing its rapid and widespread adoption among the unorganised workers. This achievement highlights the social impact and the Government’s commitment to support unorganised workers across the country. The Government envisages to establishing the eShram portal as a “One-Stop-Solution” for Country’s unorganised workers. To enhance seamless movement at the Toll Plazas, Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a company promoted by NHAI, has developed a GIS-based software for ‘Real-time monitoring’ of the waiting time at the Toll Plazas. Initially, NHAI has identified around 100 toll plazas for live monitoring on the web-based software. The Ministry of Coal has achieved significant growth in overall coal production, reaching 384.08 million tonnes (Provisional) up to August 2024 in FY 2024-25, compared to 360.71 MT during the same period in FY 2023-24, reflecting a growth of 6.48%.
