(PTI) The Supreme Court today decided to hold the final hearing in the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title dispute from December 5 and made it clear that no adjournment shall be given in any circumstance. The apex court, after an intense deliberation for more than one-and-half-hours, reached a consensus on commencement of the hearing on the cross-appeals filed against the 2010 judgement of the Allahabad High Court. (The Mint) State-run refiner Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd (BPCL) on Friday reported a 72% plunge in first-quarter profit, missing analysts’ estimates. The company’s profit fell to Rs745 crore for the quarter ended 30 June 2017, from Rs2,621 crore in the year-ago period, the company said. Analysts on average had expected the company to post a quarterly profit of Rs1,406 crore, according to Reuters data. Total expenses of the company in the quarter under review jumped 24% to Rs66,309 crore. (PTI) Militants opened fire on an Army camp in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir, injuring a jawan, police said today. The militants fired at the Army building in Kalaroos area during the night, a police official said. Sunil Randhawa of the 17 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAKLI) was injured in the incident. The injured was taken to an Army hospital in Drugmulla where doctors stated his condition to be stable. The Army and police have launched search operations in the area to track down the militants, he added.
(PTI) State-owned Oil India Ltd on Friday reported a 9% drop in its June quarter net profit after a drop in natural gas price offset gains made from higher oil production. The company posted a net profit of Rs450.24 crore, or Rs5.67 per share, in April-June compared with Rs494.41 crore, or Rs6.17 per share, in the same period of the previous fiscal. “The reduction in profit after tax (net profit) was primarily due to the reduction in price of natural gas from $3.06 per million British thermal unit in Q1 FY 2016-17 to $2.48 per mmBtu in Q1 FY 2017-18,”…

(FE) The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) today said it will pay Rs 30,659 crore dividend to the government for the year ended June 30, less than half of what it paid in the previous year. The central bank had in the previous year paid Rs 65,876 crore dividend to the government. “The Reserve Bank’s Central Board, at its meeting held today, approved the transfer of surplus to the Government of India amounting to Rs 30,659 crore for the year ended June 30, 2017,” RBI said in a statement.
